I trained at AIIMS, New Delhi, for both my MBBS and my MS Surgery. There you get questioned on every decision you make, and that discipline stayed with me. In cancer surgery the thing that matters is not speed. It is judgment.
I recommend an operation when the tumour can be removed completely with a clean margin and when removing it changes the outcome. When it does not, chemotherapy or radiation often needs to come first, or instead. I would rather tell you that plainly than operate for the sake of it.
